Sopaipillas Recipe
Ingredients:
4 c of flour; sifted
2 tsps of sugar (refined)
1/4 c of shortening (or lard)
1 Tbsp of baking powder (Calumet)
1-1/2 tsps of salt
1-1/4 c of water (or more if needed)
Instructions:
Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt inside a bowl. Add shortening till crumbly then add the water; mix till formed to a dough. Knead for 10 to 15 times till it forms to a ball. Let it stand for twenty mins, covered.
Divide the dough to two portions. Roll each portion to 1/8-inch thick on a slightly floured surface. Cut to 3-inch squares and cover, so as they won’t dry. Turn upside-down and fry till golden, turn to cook other side. Drain excess oil on a paper towel.
